FLACC Behavioral Pain Assessment

Facial Expression

No specific expression or smiling

Occasional facial distortion or frown

Continuous trembling jaw, clenched jaw, furrowed brow

Leg Movements

Normal posture or relaxed state

Discomfort, unable to rest, muscle or nerve tension, intermittent bending/stretching of the body

Kicking or straightening the waist, high tension, exaggerated bending/stretching of the body, trembling

Activity

Quiet lying down, normal posture, can move smoothly

Restlessness, pacing, tension, hesitant movements

Curling or convulsing, swaying back and forth, shaking head left and right, rubbing some part of the body

Crying

No crying or fussing

Moaning or whimpering, occasional crying, sighing

Constant crying, screaming or sobbing, moaning

Comfortability

Calm, content, relaxed, not requiring comfort

Doubts can be dispelled and attention can be distracted through occasional physical contact

Difficult to comfort

Score:

Restlessness, pacing, tension, hesitant movements

Result Interpretation

The total of the 5 indicators, with a minimum of 0 points and a maximum of 10 points. The higher the score, the more obvious the discomfort and pain.

FLACC Score includes: facial expression, legs, activity, crying, and consolability.

FLACC Behavioral Scale is applicable for: postoperative pain and discomfort, selective surgical postoperative, children aged 0-7 who cannot accurately express themselves.
