Result Interpretation

The Fugl-Meyer Balance Scale is mainly used for the assessment of balance function in hemiplegic patients.

This method involves seven assessment items for hemiplegic patients. Each item is scored on a scale of 0 to 2, with a maximum score of 14 and a minimum score of 0. A score of less than 14 indicates a balance function disorder, and the lower the score, the more severe the balance dysfunction.

During unsupported sitting, both feet should be on the ground. When assessing the healthy side "wing" reaction, the examiner gently pushes the patient from the affected side towards the healthy side to the point of near imbalance, observing whether the patient abducts the healthy upper limb 90° to support the surface with the "wing" reaction.
