Parkinson's Disease Staging Criteria

Stage Characteristics
Stage 0 No signs
Stage 1 Unilateral disease
Stage 1.5 Unilateral disease affecting axial muscles
Stage 2 Bilateral disease without balance impairment
Stage 2.5 Mild bilateral disease, slight postural reflex impairment, but able to self-correct
Stage 3 Mild to moderate bilateral disease, some postural instability, some dependence
Stage 4 Severe disability, but able to stand or walk independently
Stage 5 Cannot get out of bed or live in a wheelchair

Interpretation of Results

Hoehn-Yahr Staging: A staging table used to assess the severity of Parkinson's disease, divided into stages 0, 1, 1.5, 2, 2.5, 3, 4, and 5. According to the latest treatment guidelines for Parkinson's disease in 2020, stages 1.0 to 2.5 are defined as early stage, while stages 3 to 5 are defined as middle and late stages of Parkinson's disease.
