Weight
kg
Burn Area Percentage
%
Time Since Burn
hours
Current Fluid Amount

Calculation Formula

Fluid Requirement Qty = Burn Area Percentage * Weight * 4

Initial Fluid Amount = Qty/2 - Current Fluid Amount

Initial Fluid Rate = Initial Fluid Amount / (8 - Time Since Burn)

Supplemental Fluid Amount = Qty/2

Supplemental Fluid Rate = Qty/2 / 16

Explanation

Calculate the intravenous fluid amount for the first 24 hours post-burn (usually lactated Ringer's solution);

Administer half of the total fluid requirement in the first 8 hours, with the remaining half infused over the next 16 hours.
