eGFR Glomerular Filtration Rate (CKD-EPI Cystatin C)

Age
years
Serum Cystatin C
mg/L
Glomerular Filtration Rate:
mL/(min/1.73m2)
eGFR = 133 x (Scys/0.8)A x (0.996)Age x B
1)
A value is determined based on the size of serum cystatin C:
Serum cystatin C ≤ 0.8mg/L = -0.499
Serum cystatin C > 0.8mg/L = -1.328
2)
B value is determined based on gender:
Male = 1
Female = 0.932

Formula Explanation

In June 2010, the IFCC Working Group successfully developed a reference material (ERM-DA471 / IFCC) for measuring serum cystatin C, and in collaboration with major diagnostic companies, formulated a globally applicable GFR prediction equation based on cystatin C. The accuracy of the 2012 cystatin C equation is similar to the 2009 creatinine equation, but it avoids racial factors. Professor Michelle M. Estrella believes that compared to creatinine, CysC is less affected by non-renal factors.
